    This begins with what God has done, not with something you must earn.

  2. Every one of us has sinned.

    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

    No one is excluded from this need. We have all fallen short of God.

  3. Sin has a cost we cannot pay.

    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Wages are earned. Eternal life is offered as God’s gift.

  4. Christ paid it in our place.

    But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

    Jesus Christ took our place. He did not wait for us to deserve His love.

  5. Salvation is received, not earned.

    For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    Good works, baptism, and church membership cannot purchase this gift.

  6. Turn to God and trust Jesus Christ.

    Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

    For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

    The promise is to whosoever will believe. Your trust rests in Christ, not in special words.

Christ died for our sins. He was buried. He rose again.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

Trust Christ now.

Turn to God in repentance and place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Trust what He did for you—not your goodness, a church, baptism, or a prayer.

You may speak to God honestly in your own words. There is no required script. Prayer does not earn salvation; Jesus Christ saves everyone who comes to Him by faith.

How can I know?

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Assurance rests on God’s written promise and the finished work of Christ, not on the strength of a feeling.

What should I do next?

  1. Read the Bible. The Gospel of John is a clear place to begin.
  2. Pray. Speak to God plainly and ask Him to help you understand and obey His Word.
  3. Tell another Christian. Let someone know that you have trusted Christ.
  4. Follow Christ in baptism and grow in a Bible-preaching local church. Baptism does not save; it is a public step of obedience after salvation.

Do I need to make myself better first?

No. Christ died for us while we were sinners. Salvation is God’s gift, not a reward for improving yourself.

Does saying a prayer save me?

No. A prayer can express repentance and faith, but the words are not a formula. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Must I join Grace Baptist Church?

No. Church membership cannot save you, and you do not have to contact Grace to respond to the Gospel. A Bible-preaching local church is important for worship, teaching, fellowship, and growth after salvation.

What if I am still unsure?
